Early Thoughts on MIUI for Jelly Bean

If you have been rooting and flashing custom ROMS on Android for any period of time then you’re going to be familiar with the ever popular MIUI ROM. Being one of the most popular ROMs in Gingerbread, it has worked its’ way up over the years and finally found its’ way onto Jelly Bean devices. When I first purchased my Galaxy Nexus I had given MIUI a shot only to be disappointed. It was when MIUI was first ported over to ICS/Galaxy Nexus and I had an experience plagued with bugs. I was flashing ROMs like crazy at the time so I simply switched to something else and MIUI slipped my mind for the coming months. MIUI will never go away for long though, with one of the largest communities for a custom ROM and the popular iOS-esque style interface, MIUI continues to grow and improve daily. After hearing it’s recent build on Jelly Bean I decided to put push my hesitations to the side and give it another shot.

Pandora Gets a New Look

If you listen to music on the internet then you have more than likely used Pandora once or twice. A staple to internet radio, Pandora has been an extremely popular website and also smart phone application. Unfortunately, until today, the app had been sub par to say the least and in my personal experience, extremely buggy at times. After the huge update today Pandora now has a completely new look. Now following the Android UI guidelines, Pandora looks much sleeker and runs much better as well. You will now get to enjoy almost the exact some functionality that you have on the official website. Review, rate and bookmark previously played tracks as well as use the new “I’m tired of this track” feature. Another thing they have added is the ability to look at the lyrics of all the songs you are listening to. Users of the internet radio station should be pleased with the update. Give it a try with the link below and check out our screenshots.

Those of you who just can’t get enough out of your current Samsung Galaxy SIII battery will be pleased to know that PowerSkin has announced they will be selling a case soon for your precious Galaxy SIII. PowerSkin cases, for those of you who don’t know, slide on around your phone and plug into your micro-usb slot. The case itself has a battery built inside of it so energy is pulled from within it first instead of your phone’s battery. The best part about it is that the battery will not hinder your use of NFC. Pre-Orders have gone up for it for $62.99 on the PowerSkin website. Also for any of you who have older Android phones, such as the Galaxy S, Nexus S, or the Thunderbolt can benefit from the current sale they are having and get your very own PowerSkin case for only $19.99.

Slices.me Beta is Now Live

Some of you might remember our review on the fantastic application Slices, a Twitter client, from One Louder apps. The wait is almost over, Slices.me just went into BETA and those of you who requested access to the BETA through their website should be getting an e-mail with log in information soon. It functions almost identical to the Android application, with your slices being displayed on the left along with mentions and messages. As the BETA tag entails not every feature is out yet for Slices.me, the Stats category and the People category still have a “Coming Soon” tag on them. All of the functions that Twitter.com has are there so you could easily drop it after Slices.me goes live. My only nitpick so far is the theme of the whole site. Sticking to the darker theme like in the Android application would have probably looked nicer. Who knows though, changing the theme could be on the way after the release of the BETA, only time will tell. So, check your e-mails and give the new Slices.me a spin.
