Being one of the most anticipated phones of 2012, if not all time, the Samsung Galaxy S III has a lot of hype to live up to as it finally made its way over to the US. In a world of emerging quad core tablets and phones, the dual core system stays strong while manufacturers and consumers believe that Android is not yet optimized to fully utilize the larger number of cores. With the recent release of Jelly Bean we’re starting to see just how smooth Android has become while being able to use all of the hardware for an enhanced experience. Being the successor to the hugely popular Galaxy S II is no easy job, and we’re here to tell you if it lives up to the hype of causing all of our news feeds to be filled with BS rumors for months.

Motorola Photon Comes To Sprint: Specifications And Facts

The newest Motorola device sporting the Tegra 2 processor and 4G speeds is headed to Sprint around August this year and is sporting similar specifications to AT&T’s Atrix 4G. The new Photon 4G “provides an on-the-go edge for managing your life from anywhere around the world.” The new worldphone that is being released on Sprint will be fighting some of the fastest phones on the market: not only through their superior processor and 1GB PC-grade RAM but also through 4G speeds (which the Photon’s brother, The Droid X2, lacks).
Included stock with the device is Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is a step up for Motorola as it has not been released for their Atrix 4G, or Droid X2 yet. Many speed improvements, features, and optimizations were included with the Gingerbread update as well as a UI overhaul. If there’s one thing that Motorola should do is include the stock Gingerbread unlock screen; I’m tired of having a laggy lockscreen on their Tegra 2 devices.
A main focus of Motorola on the Photon 4G is the media side of things. The new phone will optimized for audio and video playback; the new phone is able to play back video with a resolution up to 1080p and includes a 16GB onboard internal memory with the option to expand it up to 48GB. The Gallery included with the phone is much like that of the Droid X2: it has built in social functionality being able to post photos directly on websites like Facebook, Flickr, and Picasa.

Here are some of the more impressive features of the Photon 4G:
• 4.3” qHD screen
• 1700 mAh battery
• Android 2.3 Gingerbread
• 4G network
• 8MP rear facing camera
• VGA front facing camera
• Supports a large assortment of audio and video files
• Able to record in 720p HD
• 16GB internal memory with 48GB expandable
• Kickstand for listening to music and watching movies

Sprint Preparing To Launch 10 New Motorola Devices

Sprint is updating their cell lineup with 10+ Motorola phones throughout 2011 including the Photon 4G, XPRT, and the Triumph across their main networks as well as their pre-paid partners. The 10 new Motorola devices will be unveiled to Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile USA customers which will bring a load of up to date devices to the networks.
The Photon is Sprint’s first Motorola 4G smartphone with a dual core Tegra 2 processor to even out the competition with the other providers such as AT&T with the Atrix, and Verizon with the Droid X2 both running Tegra 2 processors. Although the timing of the Photon’s arrival isn’t exactly best, due to the upcoming release of the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint, hopefully the device will hold its own and keep up the competition in the markets.
The Motorola Triumph is the first Motorola Android smartphone to hit Virgin Mobile and is a stepping stone for Virgin Mobile to receive more high-end Androids this year. The Triumph is roughly the same specifications as the Galaxy S line, running a 1Ghz processor with a 5MP rear facing camera as well as a VGA front facing camera. The new mobile device running a 4” screen will be available something this July on www.virginmobileusa.com and retail outlets throughout the nation.

Sprint’s got the XPRT listed at $129.99 on contract and instant rebate.
HTC EVO VIEW 4G and EVO 3D Both Launch June 24th Through Sprint

HTC is launching their two latest 4G products through sprint this month; the EVO 3D and the EVO View 4G.
The EVO 3D will be sporting Android 2.3, Gingerbread, includes the ability to record and view 3D videos (without glasses), 4.3-inch qHD 3D display, dual 5MP cameras, and a 1.2Ghz Dual-core processor to keep it up to speed. With the previous success of the EVO 4G, the 3D will have a large fan base to start off with. As of June 1st, only 9.5% of Android devices are currently running Gingerbread which will make the 3D one of the few devices natively running it. The EVO 3D is available for $199.99 with a two year service agreement.
The View will be one of the first 4G tablets on the market which will include a 7-inch screen, 1.5Ghz, single-core processor, and will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sprint promised that as soon as Honeycomb is released for 7-inch tablets it will be updated to 3.0. The plans included for the View are incredible! For $34.993 (where’d they get that number?) per month you get 3GB of 3G data and unlimited 4G data, text, picture, and video messaging with no extra charge. The View 4G is available from Sprint for $399.99 with a two year service agreement.

EVO 4G Finally Getting Gingerbread Update

We previously mentioned the Sprint website showing the EVO 4G shipping out with Android 2.3. Thanks to Sprint’s official Twitter and the community forums the HTC EVO 4G will be officially getting Android Gingerbread Update over the air starting June 6th! The two-step update will only take a few minutes and will bring the EVO up-to-date with the all new Android 2.3 Gingerbread Glory.
If you’re impatient and want to grab the update early, you can access the update page from the home screen by pressing Menu, Settings, System Updates, HTC Software Update; this will manually start the update so you can receive Gingerbread 3 days early (starting June 3rd). The update brings updates to download management in the Downloads application included stock, fixing the ability to stream media to the device, syncing multiple Gmail accounts, and improves battery life by fixing discharge issues.

Nexus S 4G Receives Maintenance Update

With the device just being released Sunday May 8th, Sprint wasted no time updating it. As with the previous models in the Nexus series, this goes to show the promptness that users can expect for the updates to be rolled out for the new Google phone. If you own the Nexus S 4G and would like to recieve the update (GR22) or get some more information on it you can visit the Sprint Community Blog. Although the phone does not measure up performance wise to some of the new phones being released, such as the Galaxy S II, the phone does include a new curved Contour Display and 4G download speeds; not to mention that the phone is unlocked out of the box, which means it can be used on any GSM carrier. Not a bad deal considering how often people wait for a developer to unlock the device. You can check out the technical specifications for the device here take a look for yourself to see if the new screen and 4G speeds makes up for the “lower-end” hardware included.
