This should be a review on how Dead Trigger is the best new game for the Android platform, this should be an review on how Mad Fingers has amazed us all with fantastic game play like their last hit Shadow Gun. This should be a review on how great Dead Trigger is. This is none of those. Dead Trigger is a game with an endless amount of potential that has been crippled by in app purchases and pay to win strategies. Five dollars for Shadow Gun seemed like the perfect amount, you received quite the bang for your buck and was able to enjoy a game without in-app purchases being shoved into your face. This is what should have happened to Dead Trigger.

Dead Trigger received a lot of press before it was released and everyone was waiting for that perfect zombie apocalypse zombie survival game. The hype train continued to chug along all the way up until its’ release when the world discovered that Mad Fingers had decided to incorporate their own little form of currency into the game. As a start they had charged you a dollar for the game and then countless more to upgrade special weapons and use boosts. These in app purchases give those who pay such a significant advantage that you wondered why you spent the dollar in the first place. Well wonder no more because the game is completely free after the 1.1 update. I was fortunate enough to spend money on the game right before it became free, so you can only imagine how thrilled I was to discover that.

It really is a shame how much potential this game has. Playing the game can be quite fun when you first start, you get a pistol that takes like seven shots to kill zombies, but overall you can enjoy the game. This will last for a couple of hours until you realize that you will have to grind on the exact same missions over and over again to buy even the most petty of upgrades, unless you would rather just spend about $10.00 on various speed, upgrade and damage boosts. Pistol isn’t cutting it? Well just spend a few bucks to get an assault rifle at level one because you wont be able to even get a terrible shotgun until about level five.

Playing the game is pretty fun, the controls are adjustable and never are frustrating. Moving around is smooth and it’s pretty easy to pull off some head shots with even the worst of the guns. The game modes are your typical zombie survival game modes. You can protect some doors, protect some people, and take some items from point A to point B. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing terrible.

Let’s talk about the graphics, Dead Trigger is beautiful. Well, if a zombie apocalypse could be considered beautiful. It’s really exciting to see how mobile devices are closing the gap between their selves and their console brethren. Dead Trigger is one of the best, if not the best looking game I have ever played on the Android platform. The lighting is amazing, the reflections are realistic and the character models are extremely crisp. This is probably the biggest disappointment of the entire situation. How could developers of such an amazing looking game completely destroy the game play with cash shops. We should be talking about how Dead Trigger is changing Android gaming for the better. Not talk about how the game is negatively affecting Android gaming by adopting the popular “freemium” model where the more you pay the better you play.

I was working on a video to show you guys how great these graphics were and noticed the 1.1 update had gone live. So, in my excitement to show everyone the new content that was added I updated my game and discovered the biggest bonus of all. The game no longer opens at all. Many users running devices with Jelly Bean on the are getting force closes at start so I’ll only be able to use these screen shots that I took on my Nexus 7 before the update. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, but with my experience today I wont be holding my breath.
