Even though the HTC Status (or “Facebook Phone”) has only been out for a little over a month, it may have already overstayed its welcome. Rumor has it that the Status will be getting the boot from AT&T.
According to TechCrunch, “multiple sources” have confirmed that the carrier will be bailing on the phone because of underselling of the product. This may not come as a shock to some (or anyone) since the phone sort of took off as a dud at the start. The “Facebook”-ness of the phone relied solely on the ability to update smoothly with their Blackberry style keyboard, and the dedicated Facebook button at the bottom of the page. Apparently, the phone is difficult to navigate, overwhelmed by Sense, and in my opinion kind of pointless. The audience they were aiming for was probably aiming themselves for a better gadget anyway.
AT&T released an official statement contradicting these rumors though, saying, “The HTC Status is a great product and our plans for it to be part of our portfolio haven’t changed.”
We’ll see, we’ll see.
