Android 3.0 Running on a HTC DROID Incredible

It was only a matter of time before we started seeing Android 3.0 ported over to a variety of handsets. Right now, you’re looking at Honeycomb on a HTC DROID Incredible. From what we can see the OS seems to run fairly smooth and includes just about all the features that you’d see on a tablet. As you’d expect, there is some lag during certain parts, but we’d have to say that’s more of the DI’s fault than the OS itself. Watch the short clip above for a closer look!

[Rumor] AT and amp;T's Next Benchmark Android: HTC Revolver

Feast your eyes on what’s being considered HTC’s new flagship smartphone; The HTC Revolver. This Android smartphone is rumored to launch on AT&T and run on the (tablet-optimized) OS, Honeycomb. How HTC plans to do this, we’re not sure- but we’re guessing it would have something to do with Android 2.4. Specs of the HTC Revolver include:

 • Dual-Core 1.2GHz Processor
 • 4.3″ LCD Capacitive Touchscreen
 • 16GB Onboard Memory
 • 1GB Memory
 • 3G+ Network
 • 8-Megapixel Camera (Back)
 • 3-Megapixel Camera (Front)
 • Honeycomb OS (?)

Whether or not this device is legit, we won’t know for sure until either HTC or AT&T give some sort of announcement on their website. The tipster who submitted this photo (above) noted that a “coming soon” image would hit AT&T’s site sometime this Spring. Let’s cross our fingers that this turns out to be another kick-ass Android phone for AT&T.

Silver Motorola XOOM Tablet Spotted in Dubai

Well, well- look what we have here. The Motorola XOOM tablet seems to come in more than just an all-black casing like we’ve seen in just about every video review across the web. This silver and black version was spotted in Dubai, along with the video review below which gives you a closer look at the XOOM tablet itself. We all love options, and hopefully this WiFi-Only version that was spotted with the FCC will be much cheaper than the $800 MSRP that we’ve all been dreading.

Android 3.0 SDK Port Hits Dell Streak, Still in Development

We originally knew that the Dell Streak was considered a tablet, so it would make perfect sense to throw Android 3.0 on it, now wouldn’t it? This video above demonstrates a (very early) build of the Honeycomb SDK for the Dell Streak. While it appears to be very buggy still, it’s a good sight to see for this device to be running a form of Honeycomb instead of Froyo. If my hunches are right, we could be seeing a solid SDK port within a month or so from now.

Motorola Bee: First Android 3.0 Smartphone?

A new device has been appearing across the web that strikes me as a little strange. As we all know, Android 3.0 was specifically designed for tablets, and tablets alone. There have been rumors of an Android 2.4 which is said to be Honeycomb for Smartphones, but there’s no solid evidence that this is even true. This device pictured above is called the Motorola Bee. This phantom device would run Android 3.0 along with the following features:

 • 32 / 64 GB internal storage options
 • 1280×720 screen resolution
 • 5MP front-facing camera
 • 4.3″ Super AMOLED multitouch display
 • 8MP camera w/ full HD capture capability
 • 3G+ support

There’s a couple different aspects of this “Bee” that bother me. One, this device is almost identical to the Motorola Atrix 4G. I mean, down to the size, shape, and even the fingerprint lock. Secondly, these images alone look like the work of a Photoshop student during his first day of class. I’m not saying that the Motorola Bee doesn’t exist or is not plausible, because lets face it. The folks over at XDA will surely have some sort of Honeycomb port in the very near future that we could dump on our hardware compatible Android devices, but this… just doesn’t seem legit.

Let us know your thoughts!

TouchType Demo's SwiftKey App for Android 3.0 Tablets

If you plan on getting a new tablet sporting Honeycomb here in the near future, then you would probably be interested in a nifty little application called Swiftkey. This keyboard app divides up your standard QWERTY keyboard into 3 sections. With letters taking both the left and right sides, and numbers in the middle, this will make typing on your 10-inch tablet much more convenient and hassle free. While your thumbs will do all the work with SwiftKey, this application also still brings us word prediction. Also split into 3 sections, SwiftKey’s word prediction will display the best guess, which just by hitting the space bar- will automatically enter it for you, along with it’s next best guess on the right, and intended words on the left.

TouchType is hoping to have SwiftKey available in Beta form not long after Mobile World Congress this month, and then a final version in April. Check out the short clilp of SwiftKey in action below.

Google Takes Us Inside and In-Depth with Honeycomb

While we’ve all been waiting for a tablet optimized Android OS for quite some time now, Google’s Android 3.0 Event which was streamed live today, presented some fantastic new features of the OS which will be available on upcoming Honeycomb tablets very soon. Most aspects of the new OS were covered such as the new Cloud support, Renderscript technology, Video Chatting, Improved Gmail, Android Market Webstore, and In-App Purchasing. In case you missed the event online, here’s a taste of what Honeycomb has to offer.

CLOUD SUPPORT

 • Excellent solution for backing up your personal data on your tablet, especially if your device is ever lost or stolen, you have the comfort of knowing that all of your information is safe and secure thanks to Cloud.

MULTI-TOUCH SUPPORT

 • Multi-touch Support on Android 3.0 is exciting in that you can really utilizing the touchscreen in many variations. Whether you’re scrolling through different news-feeds, social networks, or even music artists; The capability to do either function simultaneously is what drives it apart from other touchscreen devices.

RENDERSCRIPT

 • The introduction of the new Renderscript technology will make the biggest impact on how we view applications such as YouTube, e-Books and Music Player. Renderscript brings high performance interactive 3D graphics right to your fingertips with seamless and smooth functionality. The simplest of actions like flipping the pages of an e-book, or scrolling through the most recent videos on YouTube, this new technology will really raise the bar on performance with tabletss today.

ANDROID MARKET WEBSTORE

 • The Android Market Webstore is a completely revamped Android Market which can be accessed via web browser on a PC, or tablet. The really innovative feature about this new Android Market is that you can make your purchases, for any one of your devices, directly from the Webstore. For example, say you’re on the Android Market Webstore with your Motorola XOOM Tablet and decide you really like the newest version of Angry Birds. You already have it on your tablet, but could really use on it your Samsung Nexus S. Click on the BUY NOW button, and you’ll have the option to “Install Device To” any one of your other Android devices set up on your Market Account. From that point you’ll receive a notification on your Samsung Nexus S that Angry Birds is now downloading to that device. It’s really just that easy.
 • Upon selecting the app of your choice, you’ll be brought to the App Detail Page. This page gives you a bunch of options to choose from such as:

1. Application Overview
 2. User Reviews
 3. What’s New/Updates
 4. Permissions
 5. Screenshots
 6. Videos of Gameplay
 7. Tweet an Application
 8. Browse Other Apps by same Developer

• The filter options on the Android Market Webstore have also been designed to make your app-browsing experience second to none. Sorting by device, popularity, etc, will enable you to slim down those results to bring you what you want faster and much more efficiently.
 • The “My Market Account” will allow you manage your purchased and installed applications like you never could before. With capabilities such as installing apps to different devices on your account, naming your devices, and managing your overall collection of downloads to and from each device will give you a way to keep your applications much more organized in a tremendously simple manner
 • If your interested in checking out the new Android Market Webstore, it is in fact live and available to use right now. Just visit market.android.com

BUYER CURRENCY SUPPORT

 • You may have experienced a scenario where the currency rate for a specific application was different from your own, which may have either prevented you or just steered you away from buying an app that you really wanted. The time for cash confusion is over with the implementation of Buyer Currency Support. BCS will allow developers to enter explicit rates for their application(s) for all different regions so that the end user will can read the proper currency rate without any hassle or guessing.

IN-APP PURCHASING

 • We’ve heard about it before, and while it’s still being implemented in many popular software titles today, in-app purchasing is easier than ever. Simply put, this feature will allow users to buy additional levels of a game, unlock new features, characters, songs… all while still in the actual application.

What we’ve seen of Honeycomb thus far is absolutely stunning. The smooth transitions of the OS along with the vibrant color schemes really show how hard the Android Developer team has been working to make the most bad-ass tablet OS than any other tablet on the market today. One thing is for sure, Apple sure better get their act together because Android 3.0 is going to set the new standard for multi-function, easy-to-use software.
