Dell Streak Pro Android Tablet Specs

Specifications for the Dell Streak Pro are believed to be that it has a 10.1 inch high resolution touchscreen (1280 x 800 LCD) with NVIDIA’s 1 GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor chip, dual cameras with 1080p Full HD video playback, built in SD card reader, its own docking system (which gives you Ethernet, HDMI and dual USB ports, will be available for the tablet as well).

Although the tablet is launching in China first, the outcome may be to our advantage. The Dell Streak Pro will be moving its way toward the US sometime next year with updated software and better understanding. Lets just hope China’s “beta” test will be more than satisfactory.

More Android Tablets by a Familiar Face

The familiar face of Dell that is, from its more than affordable computers to its mp3 players Dell has been there. So what better way than with their own tablet? Android running tablets, the Dell Streak 5 and 7, are currently available to consumers today but Dell has plans on taking it a bit further. With new updates come new devices.

Dell Streak Pro 10-inch Google Android Honeycomb tablet has been said to release in China during Summer. Dell Vice President John Thode has also announced the reason why China would be the first recipients of the tablet to CNET. “This is not an either-or for us. This is a choice about where is the best place to take our story and avoids a bunch of the inhibitors and barriers to success that we’ve seen in the U.S. market,” Thode said. “Things like confusion over what exactly Android is bringing to the table [and] an immature platform and roll out of devices that weren’t quite ready yet.”

The specs shown on the picture provided show a powerful little device including, no less than, Honeycomb. Android 3.0 SDK Port Hits Dell Streak, Still in Development

We originally knew that the Dell Streak was considered a tablet, so it would make perfect sense to throw Android 3.0 on it, now wouldn’t it? This video above demonstrates a (very early) build of the Honeycomb SDK for the Dell Streak. While it appears to be very buggy still, it’s a good sight to see for this device to be running a form of Honeycomb instead of Froyo. If my hunches are right, we could be seeing a solid SDK port within a month or so from now.

Announced: Dell Streak 7 pricing for T-Mobile

Lately there has been rumors about the pricing on the Dell Streak 7. T-Mobile is finally setting the record straight with the official figures for pricing. People were predicting a contract price of $330 which is far off from T-Mobile’s figures. They will be offering the Streak 7 for $200 with a two-year contract and a $50 mail-in rebate. If you don’t feel like being tied down with a contract then they will also be offering the tablet for $450, not bad considering the Galaxy Tab is $600 off contract. We”ll have to see how Dell does in the “4G” tablet game when it goes on sale this week.

Inside Corning's Gorilla Glass: Does the Protection Really Matter?

As the smartphone market grows larger in size, and we start seeing more sophisticated devices emerge from manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola, LG and HTC, the demand for protection solutions become much greater. Why? Well, let’s face it… No one wants their brand new Android smartphone to crack, shatter, or scratch when it hits the ground. There’s a lot of money invested in mobile devices these days, more than than ever, in fact. Today’s smartphones provide us with the ability to accomplish over 50% of the tasks that we would normally tend to on our home or work computers, so why shouldn’t we have the best protection for quality investments?

If you’ve been following the latest smartphones and gadgets, then you’ve probably heard the name Gorilla Glass before. If you haven’t, then you’ll be ecstatic to discover that there’s such a product on the market that offers a level of protection like no other.

Corning has developed an environmentally friendly alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet of glass that’s designed specifically to function as a protective window for high-end display devices. With its superior composition, a deeper layer of chemical strengthening is achieved unlike other chemically strengthened glasses.

So how is it made? Corning explains it as a chemical strengthening process which is achieved through an ion-exchanged process that creates a compression layer on the surface of the glass substrate. This compressive layer provides an armor which reduces the propagation of flaws, created either in productive processes or by end users.

We had a chance to check out Corning’s booth at CES 2011 last week, and saw a few demonstrations and comparisons which involved some serious key-scratching and device-dropping that would make any smartphone owner cringe at the mere sight of it. Check out this video from Fox Business that caught the action on tape, showing just how strong this stuff is.

Maybe a bit more brutal than the average smartphone owner, but it definitely gets the point across of how well Gorilla Glass is made and holds up. So let’s go over some key points of Gorilla Glass and its features.

 • Pristine Surface Quality: Because it is formed using Corning’s proprietary fusion process, Gorilla Glass offers the same high-quality pristine surface available with all Corning’s high-technology display substrates. With the right process, this features offers the ability to use the glass “as drawn,” eliminating lapping and polishing processes which can introduce surface damage.
 • Thinner Form Factor: Gorilla Glass retains its performance advantage over standard chemically strengthened substrates even when used in thin form factors. It’s currently available as-drawn in thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 2.0mm.
 • Easy to Clean, Wear Resistant Coating: Version’s of Gorilla Glass are available which offer a special coating making it easier to clean than other cover glasses. This is especially useful for devices that function by touch.
 • Compliance with Environmental Standards: Gorilla Glass is RoHS compliant, making it an ideal component for devices engineered to meet environmental standards.

Although this may seem like break-through technology here, it’s actually been around for many years. What’s changed is the demand for high-end touchscreen devices and the need to protect them more so than the average plastic or glass display. Already Corning’s Gorilla Glass is offered in devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, Dell Aero, Dell Streak, LG Optimus 7, Motorola DROID 2, DROID Pro, Samsung Captivate, Continuum, Galaxy S, Transform, Vibrant and even in LCD televisions like the Sony BRAVIA.

The bottom line is that we can surely expect Gorilla Glass to be a huge part of the future of smartphone manufacturing, whether it’s Android or not. But I think we can all agree that Gorilla Glass looks best on an Android device than any other.

T-Mobile Branding Shows Up On Dell Streak 7 Tablet; AT and amp;T Soon to Follow?

A new group of photos have come to light from CellPhone Signal indicating that the upcoming Dell Streak 7 will at least definitely have T-Mobile branding. With the device sporting a 3G modem which supports both AT&T and T-Mobile, we’re a little surprised nothing has been mentioned yet as far as an AT&T launch. What we do know so far is that the Dell Streak 7 features 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an SD card slot. We should expect an official announcement of the device around January, and maybe even a launch in February or March.
