Early Thoughts on MIUI for Jelly Bean

If you have been rooting and flashing custom ROMS on Android for any period of time then you’re going to be familiar with the ever popular MIUI ROM. Being one of the most popular ROMs in Gingerbread, it has worked its’ way up over the years and finally found its’ way onto Jelly Bean devices. When I first purchased my Galaxy Nexus I had given MIUI a shot only to be disappointed. It was when MIUI was first ported over to ICS/Galaxy Nexus and I had an experience plagued with bugs. I was flashing ROMs like crazy at the time so I simply switched to something else and MIUI slipped my mind for the coming months. MIUI will never go away for long though, with one of the largest communities for a custom ROM and the popular iOS-esque style interface, MIUI continues to grow and improve daily. After hearing it’s recent build on Jelly Bean I decided to put push my hesitations to the side and give it another shot.

Krusell ActionCover Case for the Samsung Galaxy Note

In a world of beautiful cases and holsters, Krusell tries hard to ensure that none of their products stand up to those expectations: except for the Krusell ActionCover for the Samsung Galaxy Note. The ActionCover provides decent protection, pretty good looks, awful grip, and a built in kickstand for those who like to use their Note in a portrait mode to watch movies or listen to music. Unfortunately though , that’s not very many of us so choosing whether or not to purchase this case is an easy decision.

Vizio Tablet First Non-Smartphone Device to get Hulu Plus

Hulu Plus has been cautious with the release of its app for Android, only becoming available for a handful of phones and no other devices.

Well, now the application has made a bit of a breakthrough on the Android front and is now usable on Vizio’s 8-inch tablet. It may come as a surprise to some that the first tablet getting Hulu Plus isn’t the Xoom or Galaxy Tab, but instead the budget friendly, $299 Vizio. The tablet itself only runs Gingerbread 2.3 as opposed to Honeycomb- possibly making the Vizio an easier option for Hulu- but it’s a start.

Hackers Delight with Evo 2 in Sight

A game console that has a welcoming embrace to mods. The Evo 2 console is expecting to hit the U.S. later in the year. The device will contain a 1.2GHz Samsung chip, 512MB of DDR2 memory and a modded 2.2 Froyo. 3D motion sensors are being contemplated before releasing the SDK into the US in the next couple of weeks.

“Evo 2 is an open console and gamers can modify any part of the system,” said Envizion CEO Derrick Samuels.

Designs for the console are still in production. As of right now the image above has the basic concept with very familiar controls.

With open source for game crafting, and hopefully Android market opportunities the Evo 2 console has potential.

Android Movies Blocked for Rooted Devices

Excited about the new Movie section in on the Android Market? Well, if you’ve got a rooted Android device, you may be in for some disappointing news. Google is blocking these rooted devices from the movie feature and really isn’t ‘fessing up about it.

The beauty of rooting is the customization and control over your device- i mean, you paid for the thing, it should at least be to your liking. But what seems to the case here is the possibility of customers abusing this power. Apparently, rooted devices may have the ability to duplicate the movie being watched. In case you weren’t aware, piracy just doesn’t sit right with the movie industry…savvy?

As long as tech companies are putting up walls, there’ll be someone surely with the ability to get over ‘em. Just a matter of time.

Home Sweet…Android?

More goodies keep pouring out from Google’s I/O, this time in the form of a platform called Android @ Home; an upcoming way to automate your home.

Android @ Home will be a series of open source libraries for developers to create home automation applications that sync up anything connected to an Android @ Home receiver. What does this mean for you? Well, practically anything and everything you plug in will be remote controlled by your mobile Android device.

Google plans on having their Android users think of everything in their home as being connected and accessible; control over everything at the touch of a button.

Things are pretty hush hush for the moment, and it may be a bit before we can see just how much extra cash is involved and set up in your home.
