Sprint Nexus S 4G Getting Ice Cream Sandwich…Today?

The Sprint Nexus S 4G should be getting its first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich sooner than some may have expected. If an employee leak is to be considered credible, we can expect the Android 4.0 update for this device today, February 16.

Samsung Galaxy 2 II

The Samsung Galaxy S II is set to ship on May 1st, which is delayed from the original March 31 release date. The phone will be packing some incredible internals such as the 8MP rear facing camera, the 2MP front facing one, and the 1Ghz dual core processor. The device will also be sporting the up-to-date Android Gingerbread software along with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. However, with the device costing close to $1,000, would it be worth the while to wait for the 2Ghz smartphone that Samsung plans to release later this year? At twice the speed, I believe that it is hard to rationalize spending near $1,000 only to fork out another for a model that is twice as fast only a few months away.

You can take a look at the official site for the device here.

Samsung Fascinate Receives Long Awaited Froyo

This morning Verizon announced the 2.2 official Android update for the Samsung Fascinate which fixes several compatibility issues and includes various improvements system-wide. Some of the improvements included are the updated Browser, complete with compatibility for Adobe Flash Player 10.1! Although 2.2 has unofficially been out for the Fascinate for some time, the Verizon update is quick and painless and still gives you the bonus features of the 2.2 system. Many apps on the market require it to work correctly and will give speed improvements throughout the system. A few of the apps include Skype, Yahoo Mail, and Cordy (which requires 2.2 to even launch). This still leaves us with one question; when are we getting Gingerbread?

You can get some more information on the update in This PDF by Verizon.

And head on over to www.verizonwireless.com/Fascinatesupport to get your step by step instructions to download and install it on yours today.

Samsung Sued Over Galaxy S Products

Notice a few similarities? So did Apple! Apple is reportedly is suing Samsung for infringing on its iPhone and iPad products. The Galaxy S devices bear a close resemblance and design to the iPhone both in hardware and software, and Apple is taking notice. They are bringing 16 claims against Samsung; is this Apple’s way of attacking Android products? Let’s hope it doesn’t delay the production and development of the Galaxy S II.

Ready To Update To Android 2.2 Official Samsung Captivate Owners?

You might want to reconsider.

Some of the ROMs, even the official Froyo release from Samsung, ends up being buggy, and even having memory leaks in certain programs, causing bugged down devices and a lower battery life. This guide for Samsung Captivate users goes step by step in great detail (and includes videos) showing how to backup, update your OS, and restore all your programs, like you never lost them. There are hundreds of ROMs available online, here’s my personal favorite, including 3 keyboards, customizable lockscreen, various speed improvements, and a voltage changer (which you can use to underclock and undervolt the CPU to your liking.) The Continuum ROM, available on XDA, is all the various updates and fixes built in.

This will also be posted under the Samsung Captivate section of the forums if you would like to reference it at a later date.

BE ADVISED: Although these instructions are safe, they do have the ability to brick your device if you do not follow them correctly. Check to make sure you have a compatible device, and one that is able to both enter download mode, as well as recovery mode (all mentioned in the instructions) before going further.

Samsung Galaxy S 4G Performs as Expected: FAST

No matter which way you look at it, Samsung is the highlight of this year’s CTIA event.
Prior to Sammy unveiling both the 10.1 and 8.9 inch Galaxy Tab’s, we stopped in to get a look at the Galaxy S 4G to see just how snappy this device was.

Thanks to the GS4G’s 1GHz processor and the High Speed 4G service, the performance of this device was the best of any Samsung smartphone I’ve seen to date.

Features:

  • High Speed Packet Access+ (D/L: 21Mbps, U/L: 5.76Mbps)
  • Real Interactive Experience and Seamless Connection
  • Smooth Streaming (HD Quality)
  • 4” Ultra Brilliant SUPER AMOLED Display
  • Ultra Slim 9.9mm Thickness
  • Android 2.2 (Froyo)
  • Seamless Multitasking with 1GHz Processor
  • Multi Video Format Support
  • HD 720P Video Recording

We also ran a Speed Test on the Galaxy S 4G and the results weren’t too shabby:

Download Speed: 4736 kbps / Upload Speed: 466 kbps

As with most devices that we’ve seen so far, the Galaxy S 4G should be seeing a 2.3 update in the near future. Let’s just hope that T-Mobile customers aren’t stuck waiting on a promised update that doesn’t arrive for 6+ months after its launch. Sorry Samsung.

One thing’s for sure, TMO folks are definitely getting a sweet addition to their Android arsenal with this device.

Galaxy S 4G Appears on Radio Shack Ad for $149.99

It appears that Radio Shack is jumping on the bandwagon of competitive pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G. This new advertisement you see above indicates that you’ll be able to grab the Samsung Galaxy S 4G for just $149.99 after a two-year contract with at least a $10 a month data plan. If you would rather buy the beast outright with no obligations from The Shack, then it’s going to run you $599.99. Decisions, decisions….

OTA Update Hits Samsung Fascinate Devices; Not Android 2.2

Just a heads up to all you Samsung Fascinate owners out there, a new update has started rolling out for the pickings. The bad news is it’s not Android 2.2 (just yet), but it’s still one step closer than before. The new upgrade brings enhancements such as:

  • Ability to use special characters in corporate email passwords
  • Increased security by hiding your 3G Mobile Hotspot password while typing
  • Ability to open any PDF attachments sent in an email
  • Improved stand-alone GPS performance

So, if you haven’t done so… Tap your Settings > Software Update and get to freshening up that Galaxy S device, would you? Oh, and if you don’t happen to see it available yet don’t panic. As with all OTA updates, it may take its sweet time to hit your device.
