The Atrix HD was one of the first HD smartphones by Motorola released in America, and being such, people loyal to the brand went out and grabbed it as soon as possible. Considering the low price point, it’s a pretty good deal for those just getting introduced into Android and for those looking to renew a contract. While there aren’t many cases out for the device, considering it was shadowed by the many other releases right-beside it, Cruzerlite has went out of the way to ensure that you have the usual quality protection for a low price.

Uniwar HD – A Turn Based Strategy Game For Free Off of the Amazon App Store Today
If there’s one game genre that doesn’t have nearly enough games in the market, it’s real time strategy. While it’s not completely void of the game type, finding a good one on the Play Store is tough. There are a few developers who have taken some time to develop some smaller time titles including Tropical Stormfront, Great Little War Game, Uniwar, among a few select others. Today you can grab one of the better looking turn based ones off of the Amazon Play Store for free: Uniwar HD.
I believe that the touchscreen platform is really missing out on a lot of potential with the lack of strategy games for the touch based style. Games could take advantage of the screen for multi-unit select, and other layout commands (which you can get a taste of in Tropical Stormfront). Most of the games that are available are games that have been seen on multiple platforms and systems and they retain the same type of game style; they all feel like you’re playing mobile game. While that’s not terrible, they really could accomplish much more.
It’s still a mobile game, but a good one
Uniwar HD is no different in the style of the game being based around something that you would see on a Nintendo DS or something of the sort; the game is simple, fun, looks great, and is a good time killer when you just want to play some turn based strategy games. While the game doesn’t offer Tegra3 style graphics, it does keep a crisp look even on larger tablet screens.
The gameplay is a simple touch-based strategy game with a point and click interface. Clicking on a unit allows you to choose his path and click a contextual menu when the unit arrives there (attack, stay, cancel). Units consist of health points and become weaker when the health continues to drop. There are 8 units available to play with consisting from ground soldiers, to tanks, helicopters, and battleships.
Finally, some multiplayer!
While the game offers a pretty straightforward game design, it does include a few features that many of the other games do not, mainly a single player campaign and a multiplayer function. The game requires a uniwar account but can be played to battle other players online, or in the same room using the VS function. Don’t have enough time to finish a game? Don’t worry, when exiting the most recent game is saved so you can resume it next time.
The game is by no means perfect, but it’s definitely fun and playable and worth every second of your time considering it’s free on the Amazon App Store today (normally setting you back $5). Make sure to take the time to grab the Amazon app store and download the game today for free. It’s also worth noting that the application works in both portrait and landscape for tablet or phones users that prefer one or the other.

Major Update Released For Dolphin Browser HD

Dolphin Browser received a new update today which includes a completely redone UI with speed optimizations to not only make the application look better, but run a lot smoother. Some of the other improvements include faster start up, faster browsing speed, import bookmarks from stock and original dolphin browser, HD addons and themes, and sub-folders are now supported in the bookmarks area.

The update bring a lot of eye candy to the previously ugly, in my opinion, browser. The tab design, bookmarks bar, and settings menu have all been redone to make a nicer experience when navigating the internet and a higher resolution interface which looks really good on the Honeycomb tablet. But the best feature included in the update is the lack of ads. The new version, 5.0, now is completely ad free is still free to download off the Android Market. If you own an Android device with version 2.0.1 or greater, you can grab Dolphin Browser HD off the Android Market here and give it a shot.

App Review: QuickOffice Pro HD

We previously reviewed the Quick Office Pro application for Android phones (basically 2.0-2.3) to let you know whether or not the application is what you wanted to purchase after all. We really didn’t highlight any of the features or include any screenshots of the HD version of the application which is for Honeycomb devices, only briefly mentioned it, so here’s our review of Quick Office Pro HD.
When most people contemplate purchasing a tablet (considering the price) they are concerned whether it will be able to replace a laptop or netbook. Well, I’m going to tell you right now that this is NOT a full featured Word, Powerpoint, and Excel editor: but in saying that, it is very powerful and will be able to do most of the job for you, minus some formatting and extra touches.

(Screenshot of the built in file manager with Dropbox enabled)
To start off, the file manager on there is quite nice, it feels similar to searching for documents on a PC and you can even attach a Dropbox or Google Docs to make it even easier to transfer those papers from device to another. I linked my Dropbox account to the program and uploaded a file from my computer (attached a screenshot from both the computer as well as the Xoom so you can compare) and the first thing I noticed was the lack of my header; not really a huge deal as they are just for looks, but it angers me that as soon as the document was opened in the application that it completely removed it. I edited the document and saved it (still in dropbox) and it was instantly available with the changes made on my PC: so if anything, I’d give it three stars for the syncing ability.

(On the left is Microsoft Office 2007 with the original file, and on the right Quick Office Pro HD with the same filed loaded, notice the header. Click on the image to see a higher resolution comparison)
As for normal document creation and editing, Quick Office performs very well. You can type everything you want and change the font, size, highlight color, and of course the underline, bold, or italics formatting on it. You can also change whether the text is aligned to the center, left, or right. Photos can be imported from your gallery or camera and can be easily placed into the document as well as resized before you complete the import. To put it in simple words, the Word portion of the application worked very well, like I said, for many of the basic typing needs.

(Here’s the Powerpoint I was referencing, all of the slides were identical with the pixelation)

(A quick snap of the Powerpoint creation)
The Powerpoint version of the application however really disappointed me. I had created a Powerpoint for a project and was surprised to see when I opened it up on my Xoom it looked like it had been exported for use in Minecraft; the pixels were rendered the size of fists in the photo and as you can tell made the presentation pretty much useless to view on there. I’m not saying that it’s completely the programs fault, but since I had made this in a newer version of Powerpoint (which it claims to support) it is possible that I had used photo formats that were an issue, although unlikely. When creating a presentation it offers the ability to use all the different slide designs, which is awesome, but after putting a photo in the slide, you are unable to add a text box to it. So if created on here powerpoints will be very simple.

Excel included worked easily and did exactly as promised. All spreadsheets I opened worked fine and the functions were easy to use. Not much can go wrong with Excel really…
The Good:
• It is a wonderfully optimized mobile Word Editor
• Some PowerPoint presentations work
• Excel is easy to use and works flawlessly
• Great for quickly creating, viewing, or proof reading your documents on the go before you finally turn it in
• Includes a lot of features for a mobile application
• Sync integration for Dropbox, Google Docs, and various other services
• Fast load times
• Great interface
The Not So Good:
• Powerpoint Compatibility
• Pricey at $16.99 (although does include a lot of features…)
• Removes formatting
• It is NOT good for final drafts, should always touch-up the project on a computer
• Lacks the ability to read some formats not native to word
Overall: Is it worth it?
I rarely use anything besides Excel and Word so the Powerpoint function, although disappointing, does not really effect the overall use of the application for me. The program has its issues, but what program on the market doesn’t? If you’re looking for an application to edit documents while on the go with your Honeycomb device, this application is perfect for you and well worth it; the interface is easy to use and has all the formatting in one easy-to-access spot. We can’t say it enough though, for being $16.99 on the market, it’s missing a lot of key features if you’re wanting to be able to use it for a final draft. If you’re interested in the Honeycomb optimized application, head on over to the Android Market here to purchase Quick Office Pro HD for your tablet.
