Playing Console Games On Android Tablets? Thanks To OnLive, It's A Possibility

In case you haven’t seen OnLive for PCs, it’s a program that lets you play PC games on any PC that has an internet connection. The program streams the game’s feed from a server that is hosting the game so your computer isn’t actually processing any of the graphics. This allows you to play graphics intensive games such as Crysis 2 or Just Cause 2 on your Netbook supposing you have a fast internet speed and have downloaded the OnLive program.

Being a gamer myself I prefer investing in the hardware and using a program like Steam to manage my games, due to all the sales and combos and such; but with the release of OnLive on tablets this could lead my purchases being through the service instead. OnLive plans on porting the service to Android Tablets which opens the market not only to PCs, laptops, and netbooks, but also lets you run very intense games on tablet which can use a touchscreen UI or a physical controller. Engadget has a post here which shows a hands on with the HTC Flyer and the controller as well as the OnLive service already running on the tablets.

I think OnLive looks very promising especially with how they are handling moving it to mobile devices. Hopefully they will bring a service that works similar to Netflix in the way that is it available on almost any device. I’m curious to see where it heads within the next few months and how well it will compete with gaming on other devices. If the lag issues are able to be fixed on the device, purchasing a small tablet and a controller can not only save money, but can save a large amount of time with having to check for compatibility and whatnot.

Rumors of Amazon Android Tablet Getting More Detailed

There’s no creative way to say this anymore- there are more rumors over the possibility of an Amazon tablet. It’s understood by most that ones easily on its way, but there haven’t been many leads as to when or what we’ll be dealing with. Well, PC Mag may be on to something, and claims to have a source with all the answers.

According to their source, we’ll be seeing two models powered by a Nvidia’s Tegra quad-core chip; one 10 inch and on 7 inch with an LCD display. Apparently, Amazon wanted to give their users the ability to switch between a colored LCD screen and a black and white E Ink-like display for easy reading, but this would take to long and Amazon is supposedly planning the release of their tab(s) in time for the holidays.

Sony Plans on Two Android Tablets This Year

This next bit of info i’m sure comes as no surprise.

Sony finally announced that it too is diving head first into the tablet pool, informing everyone of its plans to bring out not one, but two Android Honeycomb (3.0) tablets by this fall.

The two models, dubbed S1 and S2, come in two different designs; a nearly traditional slate with a wedged back and 9.4 inch (1280×800 resolution) display, and a clamped folding model with dual 5.5 inch screens that can be used separately or combined into one.

The S1 comes with front and rear facing cameras, and the S2 also comes with two featured cameras.

Both will support Wi-Fi and 3G and 4G wireless networks and will be powered by Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor.

A more specific date has not been released, and there is no hint at a price yet.
