In a sea of overwhelming news sources, users are constantly trying to find better ways of viewing this content. Personally, Twitter has been the best news provider, but there’s always room for improvement. One of the most widespread used news sites of today for technology is The Verge. Recently, The Verge released their own app for Android devices, built by WillowTree Apps, Inc. If you’re a fan of The Verge you’re going to want to see this.

When you first open up the app you will notice two things, The Verge and Starbucks. Hopefully you’re a fan of Starbucks because you’re going to be seeing it on every article you read in this app. This is what keeps the app free, but honestly a paid app without ads would be more appealing. Aesthetically, The Verge does a great job of looking sleek and appealing. A lot of other sites have pretty sub-par apps that don’t do themselves justice. All of the information is presented in an easy to read fashion. The only area that could use some work is the account area, some of the buttons aren’t uniform. That entire section doesn’t feel very uniform in comparison to the rest of the site.

The App performs good enough. There is a pull to refresh features which always comes in handy. Sometimes load times are a bit lengthy. Even running on the Nexus 7 it would take a while to refresh and reveal more articles. Switching sections can be sluggish at times as well and pushing some of the buttons were completely unresponsive at first. The comments section is well constructed, it’s easy to see the branches of each comment, mark some as read and reply.

Overall if you like The Verge and of news sources that have their own standalone apps then you should definitely check this app out. That is, if you don’t mind seeing starbucks everywhere.
